This week we are focussing on the question, 'Is it fair?' In Numeracy and Literacy we are looking at the wages earned by different people associated with Football.

Weekly wages:
Minister of Culture, Media and Sport, weekly wage        £2,588
Football stitcher in Pakistan, wage per normal ball          £0.20
Football stitcher in Pakistan, wage per Fairtrade ball       £0.40
Sports shoe worker in Indonesia, weekly wage               £13.35
Sewing machinist in UK, weekly wage                                 £270

I don't think it's fair because people in Pakistan make football's and only earn 20p for working hard when footballers earn more by just kicking a ball!

I don't think it is fair because people work just as hard but earning a lot more money and I think footballers shouldn't earn as much because of kicking a ball up and down a football pitch. The highest paid footballer earns £300,000 a WEEK some people don't even earn that in a year .It is shocking how much they earn absolutely shocking!!!

I think it isn't fair because people in different countries say Pakistan they work just as hard as footballers in red HOT factory's and they just kick an ball around for 90 minutes and some professional footballers get paid 300,000 pounds a week I think it is TERRIBLE!!

I don't think it is fair because people ore working full time to stitch a football for 20p and the footballers kick the ball around and get paid 300,000 pound.

I do not think it is fair because people that make the footballs work harder than the football players they just kick around a football for 90 miniouts.

Weekly wages should be all fair! Why can't everyone get the same amount of money for each job they have? This is not fair!

The payment the professional footballer gets is absolutely RIDICULOUS. The football maker should get a lot more money than 20p and 40p. All the footballers do is kick a football around for ninety minutes!!

It is not fair.
Footballers get £300,000.00 and people who make the footballs get £0.20 so this shows you its not fair.

I think it's unfair because footballers are paid loads of money to do what lots of children can do in school for free.

I don't think it is fair because people making footballs only get 20p per ball and footballers only kick a ball about and run around and they get £300,000. But the people that make the balls do more than footballers do so they should get more money and if they got £300,00 they should still give a little bit of the money to a charity to cancer or something.

I think it is not fair because the money the people that are making the ball is 40 or 20p is a problem. As the footballers just kick the ball and save goals and they are getting more money I think that is terrible.

I don't think that it's fair because a football stitcher in Pakistan and a stadium construction worker in Brazil both work as hard as a footballer but don't get paid as much as them!

I don't think it is fair because people that stich the football only earn 20p and footballers only run around and kick the football around the pitch .

I think it is not fair because people in Pakistan are making balls and they only earn 20p each ball. They also work in terrible conditions in a boiling hot country. But a footballer gets paid 3000,000 pounds by kicking a ball around for 90 minutes on a field while the ball makers work more then 90 minutes and they work harder.

I think it's extremely unfair because people in Pakistan who are sewing the footballs in dry, hot conditions work so much harder than the footballer they are making the ball for.

I don't think its fair for the people that make the footballs because they only get 20p a week but a footballer get 300,000 and only kick a ball around for a couple of hours its shocking isn't it just shocking!!if people get that much money they should give a little bit to charity or the people who make the balls don't you think.

I don't think it is fair because a highest paid footballer in the premier league gets paid weekly £300,000! £300,000 just to kick a football around for 90 minutes meanwhile a football stitcher in Pakistan amazingly only gets 0.20p for a week for a normal ball. Imagine what it would be like looking after your family with that amount of money. You would only get 0.80p a month if you were a football stitcher in Pakistan. I think everyone should get the same amount no matter what job they do.

Some very interesting facts. I didn't realise footballers were paid so much in comparison to a working man trying to feed his family on 47 pounds a week in some poorer countries.
